India has launched Operation Amistad to support earthquake-hit Venezuela after twin earthquakes caused widespread destruction and heavy casualties. Two Indian Air Force C-17 aircraft carrying over 35 tonnes of humanitarian aid, including BHISHM Cubes, medicines, medical equipment and relief supplies, have departed for Venezuela. A 41-member medical contingent from the Indian Army’s 60 Para Field Hospital, including nine doctors, will provide emergency treatment, trauma care and surgical support. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said the mission reflects India’s commitment to assisting Venezuela during the crisis. The devastating earthquakes have killed 235 people, injured over 1,500, and left thousands unaccounted for, with Caracas and La Guaira among the worst-hit areas.
