Sri Lanka has achieved a major economic milestone, with per capita income surpassing US$5,000 for the first time, reaching US$5,003 in 2025, according to the Central Bank’s latest annual report. The country's economy expanded by 5% during the year, reflecting a strong recovery from its recent financial crisis. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rose to 32.75 trillion Sri Lankan rupees (around US$105 billion), while government revenue increased to 16.7% of GDP. The achievement signals improving economic stability, though authorities stress that sustained reforms and prudent fiscal policies remain essential for long-term growth.
