Hundreds of farmers from Punjab were stopped by Haryana Police at the Shambhu border on Tuesday while marching to Delhi to attend a Kisan Mahapanchayat against the proposed India-US trade deal. Multi-layered barricades were set up at the Punjab-Haryana border, echoing the 2024 farmers' protest. Farmer leaders accused both the Haryana and Punjab governments of restricting their democratic right to protest. The Mahapanchayat, organised by the Desh Bachao Morcha, demands greater transparency in the proposed trade agreement, warning that opening India's agriculture and dairy markets to US products could severely affect millions of farmers and rural families.
