Mirabai Chanu won India's first gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. She claimed the women's 48 kg weightlifting title with a Games record total lift of 190 kg. Chanu lifted a record 85 kg in the snatch and 105 kg in the clean and jerk. The victory gave her a third straight Commonwealth Games gold after winning in 2018 and 2022. She became only the third Indian athlete to win three consecutive individual gold medals at the Games. Chanu said she was proud to win another gold for India and thanked the Indian Weightlifting Federation for its support.
