Asmita Dey created history by becoming the first Indian judoka to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. The 23-year-old defeated Canada's Quach in the women's 48kg final in Glasgow on Friday. She secured victory with a last-second move during the golden score period. Asmita began her campaign with a dominant win over Scotland's Ewing before defeating Summer Shaw in the semifinal. Her gold is India's first-ever in Commonwealth Games judo and the country's fourth gold medal at CWG 2026. The Tripura athlete, daughter of a bicycle mechanic, has also won medals at several international judo events in recent years. (PC: AP)
