Heavy rainfall continued to batter Kerala, leaving 8 people dead, 8 missing and 13 injured as floods and landslides caused widespread destruction across the state. Chief Minister V D Satheesan said 27 houses were completely destroyed and 196 were partially damaged. Authorities evacuated 5,792 people to 209 relief camps as swollen rivers, flooded roads and overflowing dams disrupted normal life. Some areas received up to 320 mm of rainfall, with Kannur recording the highest. The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for 12 districts, warning of more heavy rain and urging residents, especially in hilly regions, to remain cautious. (PC: HT)
