The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear a public interest litigation (PIL) questioning whether Delhi's Jantar Mantar remains a suitable venue for protests. The petition argued that frequent demonstrations disrupt traffic, restrict access and affect the supply of essential services for nearby residents. A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant issued notices to the Centre and sought a response from Solicitor General Tushar Mehta. The court said the concerns raised in the petition were important and required consideration. Jantar Mantar recently witnessed a 37-day protest over the NEET-UG paper leak led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). (PC: HT)
