India has taken a major step towards building its first indigenous fighter jet engine, with the proposed Safran-DRDO joint venture expected to receive government approval before August 15. The project aims to develop a 120 kN engine, followed by a more powerful 140 kN version for future fighter aircraft, including the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA). Officials say India will own 100% of the intellectual property, reducing dependence on foreign suppliers.
