India's Asmita Dey believes judo will gain greater recognition after the country's historic performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. The 48kg judoka won India's first judo gold in Glasgow by defeating Canada's Heidi Quach in a dramatic Golden Score final. India finished with four judo medals—two gold, one silver and one bronze—its best-ever Commonwealth Games haul in the sport. Welcomed at Delhi airport on her return, Asmita said the success would inspire more youngsters to take up judo. She credited her determination after trailing in the final, recovering with a composed display before producing the decisive Yuko in extra time to secure the gold medal. (PC: Getty)
