UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed grief over devastating flash floods in Nepal and Tibet that have killed at least 157 people, while hundreds, including security personnel and tourists, remain missing. The UN said it is supporting Nepal’s government-led response by assessing the disaster’s scale and delivering urgent assistance, with humanitarian teams mobilising supplies and personnel. The floods were triggered after an avalanche blocked the Lhende tributary of the Bhote Koshi near Timure at the Nepal-China border. With no rainfall reported, residents had little warning. Authorities said 391 tourists and 44 security personnel were missing, while nine hydropower projects, commercial banks, 19 motorable bridges and numerous public and private properties were swept away.
