A fresh flood threat has emerged in Nepal’s Rasuwa district after a new barrier lake formed near the source of the Bhote Koshi River close to the Nepal-China border. Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said Chinese authorities reported that around 2 million cubic metres of water had accumulated in the lake by Thursday morning, with another 3 million cubic metres potentially entering over the next three days. Authorities fear the barrier could breach and trigger another flood downstream. The DHM has urged residents, travellers, security personnel and rescue teams to stay away from riverbanks and remain in safe areas. Chinese authorities are monitoring the lake and conducting simulations and risk assessments. (PC: PTI)
