A catastrophic flash flood in Nepal’s Himalayan region has devastated communities along the Bhote Koshi River, after a glacial collapse triggered torrents of water, mud and debris. At least 579 people had been confirmed dead, while more than 1,900 remained missing, with the toll expected to rise. Survivors described losing relatives, homes and livelihoods within minutes. Entire villages, roads, bridges and hydropower facilities were destroyed. Rescue teams continue helicopter evacuations and searches, although unstable terrain and rising river levels have hampered operations. Temporary shelters are crowded with grieving families desperately seeking information about missing loved ones. (PC: The Guardian)
