I am devastated by todays event. I considered not posting images that show terrible tragedy to people’s homes. I want to make it clear that if there are any news outlets out there that need free content to raise awareness, let me know, nobody should make money on this! pic.twitter.com/CaNih72v6Z

The volcano that erupted near the Icelandic fishing village of Grindavik on Sunday, has now started sending lava flowing into the town engulfing at least three homes. Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdittir described a "very serious situation" after the buildings went up in flames. Professor Magnus Tumi Gudmundsson of the University of Iceland explained that the eruption is "somewhat bigger" than earlier events in the series of eruptions in the southwest peninsula over the last three years, which were "quite benign and located far from roads and infrastructure." Prof Gudmundsson said there has been "unrest and volcanism" in the area "for years," but the defences built near Grindavik in December would likely not be "big enough" if the eruption continues long and grows larger.
