The Supreme Court on Wednesday questioned a Greater Noida executive magistrate for issuing a notice to Gautam Buddha University student Akshat Tripathi over his participation in the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. The notice sought a ₹5 lakh personal bond despite the court’s earlier order barring coercive or penal action against students linked to the 36-day protest. CJI Surya Kant asked, “How could a Magistrate dare to issue notice?” The notice was later withdrawn. The three-judge bench said it would seek an explanation from the authority and examine whether the court’s order had been violated. (PC: India Today)
