A Delhi court has denied anticipatory bail to reservation activist and YouTuber Ajeet Bharti in an SC/ST Act case, saying his remarks about Dalit leader and Nagina MP Chandrashekhar Azad prima facie invoked caste hierarchy and notions of upper-caste superiority. The court observed that Bharti’s statement that Azad should “make himself worthy” of marrying an upper-caste woman was a specific caste-based reference and appeared humiliating. It held that Section 3(1)(r) of the SC/ST Act was prima facie attracted, triggering a bar on anticipatory bail.
