Manipur Musician Vikram Chongtham’s Killing in Delhi Revives Concerns Over Racism Against Northeast Indians

Fifty-four-year-old Manipuri guitarist Vikram Chongtham was killed in New Delhi after an argument outside his apartment reportedly escalated into a violent attack. He was chased upstairs by a group of men and later died from his injuries in hospital. Delhi Police have arrested eight people, including a minor, on murder charges, while the motive remains under investigation. Singh was a respected musician who had spent about two decades teaching music in Delhi and was regarded as a pioneer of Manipur’s rock scene.
