‘Peace on Border Essential’: PM Modi Tells Xi as India-China Leaders Hold Bilateral Talks in Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held bilateral talks on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi on Saturday, reviewing ties, border issues, trade and investment. Modi stressed that “peace and tranquillity” in border areas are essential for the continued development of India-China relations and called for both sides to follow existing agreements. The leaders backed efforts for a “fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable” solution to the boundary question. Xi said the two countries can “fully learn” from each other’s strengths, support one another and pursue common development. The meeting followed steady improvement in bilateral ties.
