Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday announced that a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) would be implemented in all NDA-ruled states before the 2029 Lok Sabha polls. Addressing the media in Mumbai, Shah said some states have already introduced a UCC and reiterated the government’s resolve to enforce it across 21 BJP-led NDA states before the elections. He also said discussions with stakeholders were still underway on preparing the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Shah highlighted the government’s abolition of triple talaq, saying it was aimed at ensuring equal rights for Muslim women. He also cited the removal of Article 370, saying it was done without bloodshed or firing a bullet.
