Sethuraman Panchanathan Becomes First Indian American to Receive NAE’s Arthur M. Bueche Award

Sethuraman Panchanathan, an Indian American computer scientist and former director of the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), has been named the recipient of the 2026 Arthur M. Bueche Award by the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). He is the first Indian American to receive the prestigious honour. The award recognizes his contributions to engineering, science, technology policy and public service. Panchanathan previously led the NSF, where he helped advance research and innovation across emerging technologies. The NAE announced the award on September 1, 2026, highlighting his leadership and contributions to strengthening connections between engineering, technology and society.
