Warren Buffett has stepped down as chairman of Berkshire Hathaway after more than 60 years. The 96-year-old investor will become chairman emeritus and remain on Berkshire’s board, continuing to provide his judgment and perspective. His son, Howard G. Buffett, has been named chairman, while Greg Abel remains CEO after taking over on January 1, 2026. Buffett led Berkshire from 1965, transforming it from a struggling textile company into a conglomerate spanning insurance, railroads, energy, manufacturing, retail and investments. Berkshire ended June with about $364.7 billion in cash. Abel leads Berkshire’s operations and capital allocation while Buffett remains involved. The transition continues while executive authority rests with Abel in the years ahead. (PC: X)
