India’s Vithya Ramraj broke PT Usha’s 42-year-old national record in the women’s 400m hurdles, winning bronze at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya on Monday. The 28-year-old clocked a personal best of 54.75 seconds, improving Usha’s 55.42-second mark set at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics by 0.67 seconds. Ramraj also became the first Indian woman to finish the event in under 55 seconds. This was her second medal at the Games, following silver in the mixed 4x400m relay.
