Pakistan has denied airspace clearance to a Russian flight carrying nuclear fuel for Bangladesh’s Rooppur power plant. The shipment was due to arrive on September 24. Bangladesh said Pakistan gave no clear reason for the decision. Pakistan later cited “technical” and “procedural issues.” Rosatom has now planned an alternative route. The remaining fuel shipments are expected to arrive by December. The Rooppur plant is important for Bangladesh as the country faces a major power crisis. Fuel loading at Unit 1 began earlier this year. Bangladesh hopes to start trial power generation soon and begin commercial operations in December.
