Security forces killed wanted Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Fauzi Musa, also known as Sulaiman Shah, during a gunfight in the higher reaches of central Kashmir’s Budgam district. The Indian Army said Musa was wanted in connection with several terror attacks over the years on both sides of the Pir Panjal range. Codenamed Operation Korag, the joint operation involving the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF was launched after intelligence indicated militant movement near Yousmarg and Dudhpathri. Troops challenged suspected militants after observing suspicious activity, triggering an exchange of fire in which one terrorist was killed. Musa had escaped an earlier September 5 encounter, while his associate Yasir was killed. Additional forces were deployed to prevent further escapes.
