The Delhi High Court on Wednesday rejected the bail pleas of activist Umar Khalid and former Jawaharlal Nehru University student Sharjeel Imam in the larger conspiracy case linked to the February 2020 Northeast Delhi riots. Khalid had approached the High Court for regular bail for the third time. His earlier pleas were rejected in October 2022 and September 2025, with the Supreme Court upholding both decisions. Both men face charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) over their alleged roles in the riots conspiracy. The violence in February 2020 left 53 people dead and over 700 injured.
