The Centre’s panel examining the link between artificial intelligence and copyright has not met since June, with its second working paper delayed by nearly 10 months. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) formed the committee in April 2025 to examine whether India’s Copyright Act can address AI-related issues. The first paper, released in December 2025, examined the use of copyrighted content to train AI models. The second paper was expected by February but is yet to be prepared. It will examine ownership, liability, originality and copyright protection for AI-generated content. (PC: HT)
