US President Donald Trump on Sunday announced that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an immediate “energy ceasefire”, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the announcement was “news for me”. Trump did not explain how the proposed ceasefire would work or how long it would last. Neither the Kremlin nor the White House had issued an official statement on the announcement at the time of reporting. Earlier, Zelensky had urged Trump to secure a 60-day ceasefire to allow Ukraine to organise elections. Trump had also called for a new Ukrainian leader, while Zelensky said choosing the country’s president was up to its people. (PC: X)
