Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on October 16 accused the Congress and its allies of seeking a Bangladesh-style change of government by using youth-led protests to create political unrest. Speaking at a press conference in Lucknow, Singh alleged that opposition leaders were attempting to undermine constitutional institutions under the pretext of electoral reforms. He argued that their campaign went beyond demands concerning the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Singh urged Rahul Gandhi and opposition leaders to respect democratic institutions and the people's mandate. These allegations come amid opposition protests in Delhi. (PC: X)
