Kolkata Police have arrested seven people in connection with the stampede at the Chorbagan Sarbojanin Durga Puja pandal in North Kolkata, where 19 people died and several others were injured on October 17, 2026. Those arrested include the puja committee’s secretary Raj Kumar Sewda, vice-president Santanu Dubey, a pandal construction worker, crowd-control personnel and private security officials. Police registered a case at Girish Park police station under Sections 105, 110 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Investigators are examining alleged lapses in crowd management, safety arrangements and structural preparedness. Further inquiries continue.
