Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid declared a “crushing defeat” for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s bloc after exit polls from the October 27, 2026 election indicated a close contest. Projections showed the opposition grouping led by Gadi Eisenkot holding a slight advantage in some polls, while others indicated a tie. Neither camp appeared close to the 61 seats required for a majority in Israel’s 120-member Knesset. Arab parties could play a decisive role in coalition negotiations. With voter turnout reaching 77.7%, the highest in more than two decades, final results and government formation remained uncertain. (PC: X)
