The United States reportedly struck Iran’s Qeshm Island on Monday, hours before American midterm elections, as President Donald Trump indicated that a deal with Tehran could happen. The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed US officials, described the attack as part of several limited, undisclosed strikes Washington had conducted against Iran in recent weeks. Iranian state news agency IRNA reported five successive explosions and said residents had spotted two aircraft. The Pentagon referred questions to US Central Command, which did not immediately comment. The strikes were reportedly intended to prevent Iranian attacks on commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Oil prices fell over seven percent amid hopes of an agreement. (PC: NDTV)
