Indian badminton stars PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen had to deal with a funding crisis during their recent European campaign, despite winning singles titles at the Hylo Open in Germany. The Sports Authority of India (SAI) did not release funds for the team's four-tournament tour across Finland, Denmark, France and Germany. Players were left to manage travel, food and accommodation expenses themselves, with some competing without their coaches. Sindhu said she was "a bit shocked" by the decision and received financial help from Olympic Gold Quest. SAI blamed the Badminton Association of India for missing the 30-day proposal deadline.
