Paraguay’s President Santiago Peña has been removed from office following a banking crisis that left millions of people unable to access their savings. The country’s Senate voted to impeach Peña over alleged misconduct linked to the collapse of Ueno Bank, a major digital lender. The bank was taken over by the central bank after failing to meet financial requirements, affecting nearly 3 million customers. Peña resigned on Thursday but was removed through an impeachment vote on Friday. He was subsequently placed under house arrest as prosecutors launched an investigation. Vice President Pedro Alliana has taken over as president and promised compensation to affected depositors. (PC: India Today)
