West Bengal's BJP chief Suvendu Adhikari has challenged the police to prove within 24 hours their allegation that the 'Khalistani' slur was hurled at a Sikh IPS officer. IPS Jaspeet Singh, SSP Intelligence Branch had stopped BJP MLAs from entering restive areas at Dhamakhali when the altercation occured. Mamata Banerjee condemned the alleged slur, saying BJP's divisive politics has overstepped boundaries and every person in turban is not Khalistani. She vowed to protect Bengal's harmony. The officer too questioned being called Khalistani for simply wearing a turban. The controversy escalated after the police and CM condemned the alleged comments. Adhikari's challenge has intensified the clash between BJP and police over the alleged communal slur.
