A powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck Taiwan, triggering a tsunami in Japan's Yonaguni Island. One casualty and over 50 injuries were reported in Taiwan's Hualien city, where buildings suffered partial collapse. Train services were suspended across Taiwan. The earthquake, initially measured at 7.4 by the US Geological Survey, was later reported as 7.2 by Taiwan's monitoring agency. Multiple aftershocks, including one at 6.5 magnitude, rattled Taipei. In Japan, a 1-foot tsunami wave was detected, prompting evacuations and flight suspensions. The event marks Taiwan's strongest quake in 25 years and Japan's first tsunami warning in Okinawa in 26 years.
