India Braces for Heatwave, IMD Warns of Above Normal Temperatures

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heatwave conditions across South India from April 3 to 6, with peninsular regions experiencing hot and humid weather. Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and parts of Andhra Pradesh are affected. Isolated heatwave pockets expected in north interior Karnataka, Jharkhand, and Andhra Pradesh. Above normal temperatures anticipated in northern plains, with Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan among the most susceptible areas. IMD Director General, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, predicts normal April rainfall but warns of increased heatwave days, 10 to 20 compared to the normal 4 to 8. Measures advised to mitigate heat-related risks.
