South African Footballer Luke Fleurs Killed in Johannesburg Hijacking

South African footballer Luke Fleurs, 24, a defender for Kaizer Chiefs and Olympian, was fatally shot during a hijacking at a Johannesburg petrol station, his club confirmed. The attackers fled with Fleurs's vehicle, prompting a murder and car hijacking investigation by police. Fleurs, who previously played for South Africa's national under-23s team at the Tokyo Olympics, is mourned by his club, family, and friends. His tragic death adds to the thousands of victims of fatal hijackings in South Africa, a country with one of the world's highest murder rates, with 5,973 reported cases from October to December last year.
