The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) released a report indicating a significant 30% rise in the sea level of the Bay of Bengal over the past 30 years, surpassing the global average. Titled "The State Of The Climate in Asia 2023," the report also highlights Bengal's soaring temperatures, which are among the highest in India. Asia was labeled the most disaster-prone region in 2023, with floods causing extensive casualties and economic losses, while heat waves intensified. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, IMD director general and WMO vice-president, emphasized the gravity of the WMO findings regarding climate vulnerability in Bengal and India.
