The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has extended the red alert for a heatwave in seven districts of southern Bengal, warning of heat-related illnesses. East Midnapore, Jhargram, West Midnapore, Bankura, West Burdwan, East Burdwan, and Birbhum will experience severe heatwave conditions until Wednesday. An orange alert has been issued for Kolkata and other districts, with temperatures expected to rise by 1-2 degrees Celsius. On Saturday, Kolkata saw temperatures soar to 40 degrees Celsius, with no relief in sight. Northern districts like Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar have been issued a yellow warning.
