Scripting history, 19-year-old Parvej Khan from Nuh, Haryana, became the first Indian to win the 1500m gold at the SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, a prestigious US collegiate event. Not just the feat, but Khan's style drew comparisons with British middle-distance legend Steve Ovett. Video clips of Khan egging on fans as he pulled away in the final stretch of the 1500m heats went viral. The on-air commentators likened his showmanship to Ovett's 1980 Moscow Olympics finish. In the final, Khan clocked 3:42.73 to clinch gold, also winning the 800m bronze.
