Former Indian football captain Bhaichung Bhutia faced his sixth electoral defeat in the Sikkim assembly elections. Losing by 4,346 votes to Rikshal Dorjee Bhutia of the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha in the Barfung seat, Bhutia's party, the Sikkim Democratic Front, was reduced to just one seat.
