UEFA has confirmed a six-figure payment to a woman who was reportedly in a relationship with FIFA president Gianni Infantino during his time at UEFA. According to The Telegraph, she received a pay rise and earned around £147,000. UEFA also paid fees for her MBA after she left the organisation. UEFA said the payments followed rules in place at the time. The rules were later tightened. Reports said Infantino was challenged over the alleged relationship by then-UEFA president Michel Platini. At least three people, including a child, were killed in overnight Russian missile strikes near Kyiv, Ukrainian officials said. The attacks hit areas east of the capital early Saturday. Three others were injured. Falling debris damaged apartment buildings and cars. Fires also broke out at a building and a fuel tank. Emergency teams worked to control the fires and assess the damage. The strikes came days after Russian attacks across Ukraine killed 21 people. President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that Ukraine faces shortages of missile interceptors. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has responded to Rishabh Pant’s request for help in buying land in the state. Pant had said he wanted to move his base from Delhi to Uttarakhand. He also said he had struggled to find suitable land for three years. Dhami called Pant the “pride of Uttarakhand” and praised his love for his home state. “Your love for your motherland and your sentiment of returning here to contribute are highly commendable,” Dhami said. He added that officials had been instructed to look into the matter. They will contact Pant and provide possible help under the rules.

A Wing Commander of the Indian Air Force has been arrested by Delhi Police for allegedly leaking sensitive defence information. The officer was arrested on May 31 and booked under the Official Secrets Act. Police sources said a woman allegedly contacted him through social media and gained his trust. She reportedly asked for information about military movements, troop deployments, photos and documents. Investigators also found a suspicious app on a colleague’s phone, which may have been used to steal data or track the device. Police suspect the woman was working with alleged Pakistan-based handlers. The investigation into the case is ongoing. (PC: AFP)

Former South Africa cricketer Daryl Cullinan has warned Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma that they cannot afford to lose form ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. Food safety officials found expired milk, rotten vegetables and poor hygiene at several five-star hotels in Bengaluru. The Food Safety and Drug Administration Department inspected 26 three-star and five-star hotels on August 7. Officials found expired dairy and bakery items, meat, fish and vegetables. Some food had fungal growth. Hotels were also found storing vegetarian and non-vegetarian food together and violating labelling rules. At The Lalit Ashok, officials seized 76 kg of meat and 200 kg of vegetables. The Radisson Blu saw the biggest seizure, with 105 kg of expired food products. Officials collected 35 samples for testing.

Argentina captain Lionel Messi reportedly faced serious security threats during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to a police dossier cited by News18. One post reportedly said, “I’m going to walk into the Atlanta stadium and blow up Messi with four bombs stuck in my body.” Security teams searched the Atlanta venue after another caller claimed bombs had been placed in garbage bins. India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has asked Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for help in buying land in the state. Pant said he wants to move his base from Delhi to his native Uttarakhand and build his first home there. In a social media post, he said he has been trying to find suitable land for nearly three years. Pant stressed that he does not want the land as a gift. Ravi Tamta, a young innovator from Almora, Uttarakhand, has successfully test-flown a prototype of an electric flying vehicle. Called HAPIDA SKYNeX, the vehicle was developed through Tamta’s startup, Hapida Sky Private Limited. Unlike many experimental flying vehicles, it does not use aviation fuel or ethanol. It runs fully on electricity and produces zero tailpipe emissions. Tamta aims to make personal air travel safe, affordable and sustainable in India. The technology could help connect remote Himalayan areas and support disaster relief. It could also boost tourism. However, the vehicle still needs more tests and regulatory approvals before commercial use.

The US Senate has passed a bill allowing tariffs of up to 100% on countries buying Russian oil, gas and other exports. The bill was approved 86-11 on Friday. India, China, Slovakia, Hungary and Azerbaijan are named as possible targets. The actual tariff rate will be decided by the US Trade Representative. The bill also allows President Donald Trump to waive the tariffs under certain conditions. It now moves to the House of Representatives. The move comes as India and the US work on a trade deal. India has defended its Russian oil purchases, citing energy security needs.
