A 78-year-old Indian-origin woman was robbed of gold jewellery worth around ₹13 lakh during an evening walk in Brampton, Canada, on July 28. According to her son, Raghavendra Kumar, a woman gained his mother’s trust by pretending to be friendly. She allegedly placed fake jewellery around her neck while removing her real gold necklace and bangles before fleeing in an SUV. The stolen jewellery weighed around 110 grams and had strong emotional value, as it was made by the victim’s late husband. Peel Regional Police are investigating the case and have identified a woman and a vehicle as being of interest.

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has accused the Assam Police of detaining its leaders and volunteers ahead of its first regional meeting in Guwahati on Sunday. Party co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka was among those detained. Ranka alleged that roads leading to the meeting venue were blocked and volunteers were prevented from reaching the site. He claimed the action was aimed at stopping the party from highlighting issues such as schools, Kaziranga and floods in Assam. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke also alleged that police took Ranka and other members to an unknown location. The party has demanded their immediate release. 

India’s Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh won silver medals in the individual squash events at the 2026 Asian Games on Sunday, marking a historic achievement for the country. Eighteen-year-old Anahat lost 4-11, 4-11, 7-11 to Malaysia’s defending champion Sivasangari Subramaniam in the women’s singles final at Nagoya. She became the first Indian woman to win silver in the event. Earlier, Abhay lost 9-11, 5-11, 5-11 to Malaysia’s defending champion Eain Yow Ng in the men’s final. Prince Harry has said it feels “great” to be back in Britain after spending six years living in California. Speaking to Canadian broadcaster CTV after a charity skydive in Toronto, the Duke of Sussex said his children were happy at school and his return would allow him to focus on the Invictus Games. Harry and Meghan stepped back as senior working royals and moved to the US in 2020. The family reportedly returned to Britain last month and is believed to be staying in the Cotswolds. A letter sent by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi to Cabinet Secretary TV Somanathan concerned the functioning of a senior Deputy Election Commissioner, not Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, a Hindustan Times report said on Sunday. Dated July 29, the letter reportedly raised concerns about an official handling election-related matters. Its contents have not been disclosed publicly and were described as classified by a person familiar with the matter. The Election Commission earlier clarified that the communication was not related to its policy decisions or IT division, but concerned the functioning of an officer on deputation to the poll panel. Indian boxer Parveen Hooda has assured India of a medal at the 2026 Asian Games after defeating Uzbekistan’s Navbakhor Khamidova 5-0 in the women’s 65kg quarterfinal on Sunday. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu compared the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attack on Israel to “16 9/11s” during his address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He said around 1,200 Israelis were killed and 251 people were taken hostage in the attack. British police arrested several men on suspicion of offences under the Explosives Act near RAF Fairford, a military base used by the US Air Force in southwest England, on Sunday. Authorities declared a major incident and evacuated residents from nearby Whelford as the investigation continued. The British Army’s specialist bomb-disposal team examined several vehicles, while armed police secured the area. Gloucestershire Police said the incident was believed to be contained. Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka and several team members were detained by Assam Police in Guwahati on Sunday, ahead of a planned volunteers’ meeting, Ranka and CJP leader Abhijeet Dipke claimed. Ranka arrived in Assam on Saturday to meet families affected by the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, visit schools and interact with party volunteers. He alleged that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was “scared” and linked the police action to concerns over the upcoming Assembly elections. At least 18 people have died in 48 hours as heavy rains triggered floods across Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar and Chhattisgarh. The downpour damaged crops and houses, disrupted road connectivity and forced thousands to leave their homes. Uttar Pradesh reported 17 deaths, with 63 of its 75 districts receiving above-normal rainfall. In Odisha, more than 40,000 people were evacuated after floods affected over 73,000 people across 10 districts. In Bihar, over 2,000 villagers moved to safer places as the Gandak River flooded homes.
