The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has identified 62 dangerous buildings across the city after the Satya Niketan building collapse. According to a survey report, action has already been taken against 20 structures. Sixteen have been demolished and four have been sealed. The remaining 42 buildings are awaiting demolition or sealing. The report was recirculated after the collapse of a five-storey PG building in Satya Niketan that killed seven people. MCD said it surveys buildings before the monsoon every year. The civic body has also suspended several officials as investigations into the collapse continue.

Samsung India has started cutting jobs in its television and home appliance businesses. Around 80 to 100 executives have reportedly been asked to leave in batches. The cuts affect directors, managers and team leaders. Rising memory chip prices, weaker demand and higher raw material costs have increased pressure on the company. The falling rupee has also made electronic products more expensive. Reports suggest up to 25% of the sales and marketing staff could be affected. Samsung’s smartphone team is not part of the current cuts. The company hopes festive-season sales during Diwali will improve demand and support its business.  

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said a building next to the collapsed Satya Niketan PG will be demolished on Wednesday. The building has been declared unsafe. At least seven people died and several were injured in the collapse. Gupta visited injured students at AIIMS and said the government will pay their full treatment costs. Police said repair and construction work was underway in the basement before the collapse. They are searching for the contractor involved. Police also said four floors of the building were illegally built, according to the FIR. The PG owner, his wife and son are in custody.  

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday refused to urgently hear a plea seeking more hostels for Delhi University students. The petition asked DU to provide hostels at every college. The matter was mentioned before Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia. The lawyer sought an urgent hearing on Tuesday. The court said a PIL on the same issue had already been filed and would be heard the next day. “One PIL has already been filed. Tomorrow it will come. Unnecessarily you waste your own time,” the bench said. The court also questioned whether an interim order could be passed.  

India recorded 7.8% GDP growth in the first quarter of 2026-27. However, economists Surjit Bhalla and Montek Singh Ahluwalia said this growth is not enough to make India a developed country by 2047. Bhalla said India needs sustained double-digit growth, especially in dollar terms. Ahluwalia also said the country needs a much higher growth rate. He warned that growth is not reaching all sections equally. Both economists stressed the need for more jobs and economic reforms. They also called for greater global trade and lower tariffs. They said strong growth must continue for many years to achieve the Viksit Bharat goal.  

Manipuri musician Chongtham Vikram Singh, 55, was beaten to death outside his home in South Delhi’s Kilokari village late Sunday night, allegedly after he objected to a group of men making noise. According to his family, Singh stepped out around 11.30 pm and asked the men, mostly delivery executives according to police, to stop the ruckus before the confrontation turned violent. His son took him to Holy Family Hospital, where he died early Monday from haemorrhagic shock caused by blunt force trauma. Southeast Delhi Police said all seven accused have been arrested and a minor apprehended, with further investigation underway. Singh was a pioneering rock musician and former lead guitarist of Manipur’s Phoenix and Eastern Dark. (PC: Newsdrum)

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) suspended five officials after a five-storey building collapsed in Satya Niketan, south-west Delhi, killing seven people and injuring several others. Those suspended include the South Zone deputy commissioner, superintending engineer and three building department officials. The civic body said the action followed the tragedy, while rescue operations continued at the site. Building owner Hariram Bansal, who had been on the run, was arrested from Rajasthan’s Bhiwadi. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the site and said the government is working on a policy requiring structural safety audits and certifications for buildings used as PGs and other public facilities. A 54-year-old retired guitarist from Manipur was allegedly beaten to death outside his home in Delhi’s Kilokari after he objected to loud music and noise, police said. Chongtham Vikram Singh, a Meitei from Imphal, had lived in the area with his wife and son for more than a decade. His 20-year-old son, Yaiphaba, told police that he saw four to five men punching and kicking his father late Sunday night. Vikram was taken to Holy Family Hospital but died during treatment. Police have apprehended eight people, including a 15-year-old minor, and registered a murder case. A postmortem report is awaited. (PC: The Print)

The death toll in the five-storey building collapse at Delhi’s Satya Niketan reached seven on September 7, with 12 people rescued from the debris, Delhi Police said. Search and rescue operations at the site have now concluded. The Delhi High Court expressed deep concern over the safety of students living in paying guest accommodations across the Capital and directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to inspect all PG hostels under its jurisdiction within a week. Police arrested 81-year-old Hariram Gupta, 75-year-old Urmila Gupta and their 52-year-old son Mahesh Gupta in connection with the case. Authorities are also searching for the PG operators and labour contractor, whose roles will be examined before further action. (PC: The Telegraph)

Cockroach Janta Party leader Saurav Das criticised the Delhi government after the Satya Niketan building collapse that killed seven people, including five students. He demanded an independent criminal probe into the building owner and the alleged PG mafia. Das also called for structural safety audits of schools, colleges and student housing. He asked the government to publish records of 13 district committees formed after the Hauz Rani incident. He demanded a public database showing whether student accommodations are safe and legal. Das also sought new student hostels, ₹1 crore compensation for each victim’s family and ₹20 lakh for injured people.
