Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said on October 22 that any fresh Opposition notice seeking the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar would be examined according to parliamentary rules and procedures. Three Christian families in West Midnapore’s Chandrakona area, West Bengal, alleged that they were assaulted, threatened and pressured to abandon their faith between October 18 and 20. According to The Indian Express, a woman was allegedly subjected to a public purification ritual, while family members were forced to offer prayers at a Durga Puja pandal. The victims also reported threats, physical violence and the theft of ₹20,000. Police registered an FIR covering charges including attempted murder and criminal intimidation. Police personnel have been deployed near the families’ homes, while the investigation continues. No arrests had been reported. 

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House witnessed chaotic scenes on October 22, 2026, as BJP, AAP and Congress councillors clashed during a debate on rising air pollution. The disruption began when AAP councillors demanded ₹1 crore in immediate development funds for their wards. Mayor Pravesh Wahi announced ₹25 lakh immediately and ₹2 crore for councillors during the financial year, but tensions continued. The confrontation escalated, with water and files thrown and microphones allegedly damaged. Marshals escorted the mayor to safety. The House’s disciplinary committee will examine the incident and consider possible suspensions. 

Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were released from judicial custody on October 21, 2026, following a Special Executive Magistrate court’s order. CCTV footage has emerged in the investigation into the firing at Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff’s car in Mumbai, reportedly showing suspects leaving a hotel while allegedly carrying weapons before the attack. The October 18 incident took place in Juhu, where gunmen opened fire at the actor’s vehicle. Shroff escaped unharmed, while his driver and another person were injured. Police are investigating the alleged roles of the shooters, weapon suppliers and others involved in the conspiracy. The investigation has also led to multiple arrests as authorities work to recover the firearms and establish the full sequence of events.

    Artist Raihan Vadra, son of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, has questioned the removal of 70 photographs documenting protests in Delhi from his exhibition at Bikaner House. Vadra alleged that officials asked him to remove 2 photographs of the Indian flag, even after he had set aside images featuring political slogans. He said officials later removed one photograph themselves. Vadra also questioned the timing, claiming he was informed just 4 hours before the exhibition opened. He argued that public art institutions should protect artistic freedom and questioned whether political pressure influenced the decision, though he said he had no proof.  

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Wednesday, October 21, welcomed the release of leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka following a Special Executive Magistrate’s order in New Delhi. The two were released from Tihar Jail after their judicial custody expired in connection with a protest at Jantar Mantar on October 14. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke praised the leaders, describing them as “much, much bigger leaders” than himself. The party’s legal head, Ratna Singh, said the release decision should have come earlier.
