Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday demanded Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation over alleged flaws in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. “He doesn’t have constitutional protection,” Tharoor said, adding that the Opposition was preparing articles of impeachment to seek Kumar’s removal. He alleged that the SIR process had led to wrongful voter deletions. Tharoor called for the exercise to be suspended and demanded a review of the software used. He also sought the restoration of deleted voter names. He said the Election Commission must ensure free and fair elections.  

INDIA bloc leaders on Tuesday stepped up their protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Rahul Gandhi invited Opposition MPs, civil society members and student groups for a meeting at his Delhi residence. The meeting followed a joint press conference by Opposition leaders. On Monday, several leaders, including Mamata Banerjee and Akhilesh Yadav, joined a ‘March for Democracy’ in Delhi. They later submitted a petition to the Supreme Court, alleging poll irregularities. The petition named the Election Commission and its senior officials as respondents.  

India on Tuesday rejected China’s claims over Ladakh and said the Union Territory is an integral part of the country. The response came after China opposed India’s decision to name 28 locations in the region. India said the locations were officially identified on the Survey of India map in consultation with local stakeholders. The 28 features include peaks, mountains, glaciers, passes, rivers and water bodies. China called India’s move illegal and invalid. The latest exchange comes amid ongoing border tensions between the two countries, which have been working to improve ties since the 2020 military standoff.  

Delhi Police has secured the removal of 100 social media accounts for allegedly sharing inflammatory posts, fake news and misleading videos during protests against the Election Commission’s voter roll revision exercise. The action comes amid continued demonstrations demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. More than 200 protesters were detained in Delhi during the second day of Cockroach Janta Party protests. Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi hosted INDIA bloc leaders, civil society members and student groups at his residence to discuss the movement. American actor RJ Mitte, best known for playing Walter White Jr. in the hit television series 'Breaking Bad', has died at the age of 34. His representative confirmed the death, while his publicist told Reuters that he died by suicide in Brownsville, Texas, on Monday.   Mitte, who had cerebral palsy, used his experience to bring authenticity to his role and advocate for disability awareness and inclusion. He also supported United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children's. Co-star Bryan Cranston expressed deep sorrow, remembering Mitte's growth as an actor and his work promoting representation. Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leader Vijay Reddy on Tuesday gave Delhi Police 24 hours to respond to the party’s demand to restore Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site. He warned of fresh demonstrations and a nationwide mobilisation if the demand was not met.   Reddy said the party had submitted a formal letter at Parliament Street Police Station, seeking permission for peaceful protests, including under the 10-day advance notice rule. Meanwhile, CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were detained again while attempting to enter Jantar Mantar. Ranka had posted a video showing the group entering the restricted site. (PC: X)

India attracted $351 billion in greenfield foreign direct investment (FDI) between 2021 and 2025, more than double China's $159 billion, according to Boston Consulting Group (BCG) data.   India's investment rose 61% from $222 billion in the previous five-year period, while China's inflows fell 54% from $350 billion.   Experts say global companies are increasingly looking beyond China to diversify their supply chains, making India an attractive investment destination.   BCG's Nikolaus Lang said India must continue improving infrastructure, workforce skills and cost competitiveness to strengthen its manufacturing sector.   The figures highlight India's growing position in global investment and manufacturing.
